ATTENTION MEDICARE PATIENTS:

The House and Senate are going to be voting on the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) cut and extension of therapy cap exceptions. They have elected to create a conference committee to negotiate the differences between the House and Senate. The House of Representatives passed legislation to extend the therapy cap exception extension until February 29, 2012. The therapy cap, if passed, will severely cut Medicare Patient’s ability to see outpatient Physical Therapists.

What this means for you as a Patient:

  • Limiting your choices of providers
  • Forcing you to bear 100% of the cost of care once you exceed the $1,880 therapy cap
  • Possible elimination of Medicare exclusion codes
  • Rationing of care to avoid exhausting benefits
  • Delay of care
  • Higher-cost interventions to remain functional

What you can do:

Use the below phone numbers to call your legislators office and express your support for a two year extension of the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) fix and the therapy cap exceptions process as outlined in the House bill, and tell your legislator that you support keeping SGR and the Therapy cap together in the same package. Also, remind your legislator that the two year extension of the therapy cap exceptions process in the House bill saves money and created a path to reform the therapy benefit long-term.
